3rd Times a Charm, Now Forever in Your Arms {Amber & Marcus}

1st Encounter
Middle school. Marcus was the new kid and Amber was indifferent. While they shared friends, the two admit they were not very close.

2nd Chance at Romance?
 While attending separate high schools, Amber and Marcus were selected (actually the only two of their entire county) to participate in a state-wide leadership retreat, but nothing really became of that either.

3rd Time’s a Charm!
Fast forward a few years, and the two were now pursuing undergrad studies at different colleges. Both home for the summer, Amber and Marcus randomly bumped into each other while shopping at a local grocery store. This time Amber would notice something a little different in Marcus… read on to hear how their relationship would develop.

First Date:  Knowing that I love Latin American cuisine, Marcus took me to a restaurant in DC called Cabanas for our first date. I initially thought he was trying too hard, but after six years of being together I now know that being romantic is just a part of who he is. He’s that guy that sends random flowers and love letters to his wife and tells her how beautiful she is. These things aren’t just reserved for dreams…

The Proposal: Marcus had arranged a horseback riding lesson on the trails near Shenandoah National Park. Afterwards, he took me to the park for a picnic courtesy of Dean & Deluca. The day had been scorching and there were a lot of bugs, and moreover, I was hungry! So just before the proposal, admittedly, I wasn’t in the most pleasant mood. The next thing I knew, Marcus was pointing to a shiny object in the picnic basket, and I was asking him if he was joking. He got on one knee and told me that I was the best thing that had happened in his life and that we were meant to be together. I, of course, said “Yes!”.

When He Knew: (from Marcus) When I ran into her at the grocery store. That day is most vivid in my head. She was so beautiful and she was funny.

When She Knew: (from Amber) Conviction and commitment are integral parts of Marcus’s character and I knew that’s what I wanted in my significant other. Marcus grew up in the church. I went to church growing up. When we were dating, he said church was something that had to be an integral part of our lives. Every Sunday I complained or stalled going to church,  but Marcus was unfazed and either urged or forced me to go. In the end, I know that commitment would be one of those things I loved most about him.

“So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.” Matthew 19:6

Silliest Spat:  It’s sad but our first real fight was over McDonald’s french fries. Lol. We ordered a meal in which both orders of fries were placed in the bag. Marcus kept reaching his hand in the bag to eat his set of fries, but he was actually eating all of them. I was hot! I really love certain types of food because I’m picky, and I don’t play. That day, Marcus realized how deep my love for specific foods really went. We rarely eat fast food now, but it’s not because of this early spat. Looking back, I can only laugh about this now. ♥

Amber’s Advice to Brides: It’s you AND your spouse’s big day. Don’t forget it. You will bond with your future spouse if you plan together, and you will learn even more about one another. You can look a million dollars if you surround yourself with people who know how to make that happen for way less.

Marcus’s Advice to Grooms: Pay cash for the ring. Don’t go broke trying to afford an expensive ring. Focus on the relationship.

 Here’s some additional fun shots of Amber & Marcus post-wedding day! I’m loving these scenic DC shots.

In 100 Words or Less:  “Single girl bumps into old friend. How romantic. Girl gets confident and starts to talk to guy, but notices guy has flowers in his hand. How naïve. Girl starts to abandon awkward situation and walks away. How foolish. Guy explains that flowers are for his mother and begins to court girl. How skillful. That day’s exchange turns into a summer of new love, an autumn of misunderstandings, a winter of forgiveness, a spring of confusion, seasons of long distance, a month of breakup to makeup, and a weekend on which they would promise to love one another forever.” ♥

Amber & Marcus, you two are such an adorable couple! Thanks so much for sharing your story and pictures with us here on the blog! Amber did I mention how much I loved your dress? You looked amazing! Cheers to you guys and may you continue to be blessed in your marriage and years to come!

Until next time,
