A Match Made at Howard! – Marnel & Matthew {Washington, DC}

“Will the REAL HU please stand up?” :) In case you didn’t know, I am a  proud alum of the one…the only…Howard University. I could dedicate an entire month of posts to talk about all of the wonderful things, people, products, businesses and yes…romances that have come out of Howard, but for today, I’ll talk about just one. Allow me to introduce to you “A Match Made at Howard”.

Okay, so the story goes something like this – In 2002, both Marnel & Matthew were students of Howard University, pursuing master’s degrees in organizational communication. They didn’t know each other but they did know of each other. Photographer Joshua Dwain describes it on his blog as “…Matthew thought Marnel was disruptive in class because she had several side conversations. Marnel thought Matthew wasn’t serious since he kept falling asleep during class.” :)

I adore these graceful images of Marnel shot prior to the ceremony. She is definitely a bride at ease.

The photo below of Marnel’s grand entrance is just “Wow!” The use of lighting is just phenomenal and I love the shadow image down the aisle. Great job Joshua! Not to mention, Howard’s Dunbarton Chapel is definitely one of the most beautiful chapels I’ve seen in DC.

Marnel’s veil adds a dramatic yet elegant feel. She is a beautiful bride!

In case you were wondering, no your eyes are not deceiving you. Marnel & Matthew’s wedding was officiated by Dr. Michael Eric Dyson. I am a HUGE fan of Dr. Dyson and almost fell out when I saw that he was the officiant. Thrilled? Yes! Surprised? Not really! Howard people definitely know how to do it BIG! :)

Ωψφ + ΑΚΑ = GREEK LOVE!

After earning her Ph.D. from Howard, Marnel moved to California to work as a professor at Fresno State. The couple still dated but admits many challenges came along with being in two different states, on two different coasts, with two different time zones. Yet love prevailed, they weathered the storm, and they would soon be together again.

College campuses can offer a wide variety of scenery for your wedding day. The photo above was taken in Howard’s Law Library. Joshua nails the use of lighting once again, and how can you not LOVE Marnel’s cathedral veil. What a great pic!

Love like you’ve never been hurt….

Dance like no one is watching…

Sing like no one is listening…

Lastly, live like it’s heaven on earth!

Congrats to Marnel & Matthew! Your love for one another is very evident in each and every photo. It’s always a pleasure to see such passionate and genuine love! Major thanks to New York photographer, Joshua Dwain, for sharing his work with us today! We definitely hope this won’t be the last time we see your work on the blog! Thanks again!

Oh, and I  can’t close this post without mentioning Marnel & Matthew’s engagement pics!! They are to.die.for! You HAVE to check them out on Joshua’s website here – http://joshuadwain.com/2011/03/portland-engagement-photographers/  I know you’ll love them! ♥

Until next time,
